World Population Day – Creating Awareness for Global Population

A finite world can support only a finite population; therefore, population growth must eventually equal zeroGarrett Hardin

Today is World Population Day, celebrated on 11th July every year worldwide. It is observed internationally to create awareness of global population. This day was introduced by Governing council of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in 1989. This event was started when the government saw a rapid increase in population of the world in 1987. This was introduced when population all around the globe had reached about five billion. This big step was taken by UNDP to deal with health and education issues of people. Now 11th July is seen as World Population Day all over the world.

India is ranked as the second most populated country of the World. The population of India as on Sunday, 10th July 2016 is 1 billion. India’s population is equivalent to 17.84% of total World Population. The population of our country is rapidly increasing and it is a matter of great concern as the day isn’t far when we will be ranked 1st among the World Population. This issue isn’t so easy to resolve.

So the need of the hour is to join hands and control the population of whole world. Especially we Indians need to make efforts to maintain a rapidly growing population of our nation.
