Teacher’s day is a day in a life of a teacher which is dedicated to appreciating the hard work and the efforts that a teacher puts in for sculpting a better life and the future of the students. A teacher is known to serve as the fuel to the fire of knowledge burning inside a student. With a good teacher in life, a student can achieve almost anything in life and can reach up to any level of height in life. History of Teacher’s Day

5th September is celebrated as the national teachers’ day in order to acknowledge the contributions of the greatest teacher of the nation Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. It is his birth anniversary on the 5th of September and hence, in his remembrance, the day is celebrated as the day of teachers in the entire nation. He was a person highly devoted towards his profession and loved his profession beyond everything. Teaching was more than just a profession for him, teaching was something that gave him happiness. He liked to spread the light of knowledge and education. The most important information about teacher’s day is the history behind it. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was appointed as the first-ever vice president of India in the year 1952 and following that, he was appointed as the second president of India in the year 1962. When he became the president of India some of his dear students requested him to celebrate his birthday nationally to which he agreed and declared that his birthday will be celebrated as the National teacher’s day in appreciation of the hard work of the teachers. In different schools and colleges, the students indulge in different kinds of activities for teachers’ day which eventually lead to a happy teacher appreciation day leaving both the students as well as the teachers in a delighted and ecstatic mood.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan devoted 40 years of his life to the teaching profession. He understood the importance of education and knowledge and hence, always promoted education. He has taught in many of the top universities of India as well as abroad. He has taught philosophy in universities of Mysore, Chennai, Kolkata, Banaras, and Oxford. His love for teaching was evident by him preferring to be addressed as a teacher in spite of becoming the president of India. He is known to be the best teacher ever and hence, in his remembrance we celebrate the day of teachers on his birthday every year. In his entire teaching career, he has worked very meticulously and diligently in order to provide the best kind of education to his students. He was also appointed as the chairman of the Universities grants commission in the year 1949. He was a man with a lot of knowledge which he shared with every person that he met in his career and lifetime.

Teachers’ Day Celebration in School

The day of teachers’ is celebrated with a lot of happiness and ecstasy in India. Especially in schools a lot of activities for teachers’ day are arranged for the purpose of celebrations. Mostly the students in the highest grade in the schools take up the attire of their favorite teacher and take over the junior classes as a teacher. On the day of the teachers, they are given respite from their duties and they are acknowledged with gifts, chocolates, and greeting cards. Very often there are functions in schools wherein the students get to perform, sing, dance, etc. The students of the highest grade also narrate the story on teachers’ day to the junior students. Sometimes, the celebrations for the day include narration of the thought of the day for teachers. Very often teachers’ day speech is also given by the students or the teachers.  However, different schools have different kinds of activities for teachers’ day which they follow and celebrate the day accordingly.

Teachers are the second parents in the life of a child. Teachers sculpt and shape our careers and life just like the way a sculptor sculpts his beautiful sculptures. The role of a teacher in the life of a student is extremely essential and hence, the national teachers’ day is the day dedicated entirely to acknowledge and appreciate these valuable gifts in the form of teachers in our lives. A good teacher is like that diamond lapidary who pares simple stones and transforms them into brilliantly shining diamonds. From the first day as a teacher to the last day, they work hard and do everything possible to make their students a good human being and hence, the importance of a good teacher can never be explained in words, it is a feeling that only a good student and a good teacher are can understand.
