Gandhi Jayanti is certainly one of the most significant national events of India. This event is celebrated on 2nd October all around India to mark the birth anniversary of the father of Nation – Mahatma Gandhi. This day is annually celebrated as the National holiday with an aim to pay tribute to his preaching and deeds. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was famous among the Indians by the name of “Bapu” as he was close to the public. 2nd October is also acclaimed as the International Day of Non-Violence as declared by the United Nations on 15th of June, 2007. Gandhi Ji was a great expositor and preacher of non-violence. During his struggle and strive for an independent India, he maintained his faith in the path of non-violence and peace. Students from colleges and schools used to celebrate this day by organizing patriotic drama, reciting poems, singing patriotic songs, delivering speeches, competitions like essay writing, and also active participation in activities like quiz, drawing, painting, etc. At the end of the event, the students are awarded for their performance and hard work.
