Each year our entire nation celebrates the victory of independence on August 15. The day remembers our patriots, freedom fighters, and nationalists who sacrificed their lives to make our country free from colonial rule. We completed 75 years of independence and commemorate the beginning of the 76th year in 2022. Every citizen warmly honours this day with respect in their hearts.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1947, India became independent from British rule. And our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, hoisted Tiranga on the Lahori Gate of Red Fort, Delhi. After two centuries of colonial rule, the nation attained freedom on this day. Revolutionists like Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azaad, and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel heralded the struggle for independence across the country. The nation pays its respects to these freedom fighters by remembering their contributions.<\/span><\/p>\n

History Of Independence Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The British Parliament mandated Lord Mountbatten to transfer the power to the Indian government on June 30, 1948. However, it did not go as decided because the Indian leaders objected to the delay in granting freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n

To respect the wishes of Indian leaders, Lord Mountbatten decided to prepone the independence date and justified it to British Parliament that delay in granting freedom would lead to bloodshed and riots.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mountbatten insisted on choosing August 15 as the independence date for India as Japan surrendered on the same date in 1945 during World War II. August 15, 1947, was the second anniversary of Japan\u2019s surrender. As a result, on June 4, 1947, the Independence Bill passed in the British House of Commons and India got separated into two nations, India and Pakistan.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Prime Minister hoists the national flag and addresses the nation on this eventful day. The celebration of this Independence Day is devoted to all the front-line workers, including the physicians, nurses, paramedics, and all other health workers.<\/span><\/p>\n
